A favorite Christmas carol is “O Holy Night.” It contains the powerful line, “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices.” What a picture that is—a world weary from waiting, broken by sin, and longing for rescue, suddenly electrified with the “thrill of hope” because God showed up! That’s what Christmas is: it’s “the thrill of hope.”
